Well today was an adventure alright. This sport will really challenge a persons fortitude. It began innocent enough. Ally starts us off with a nice ride. A little too assertive in the triple, that cost a rail, but a damn fine round for a Clydesdale. Next was Kelly and Gaelic whos half halts finally came in the mail. Show jumping Gaelic doesnt really require those as much. One needs to ride him into the ring like hes pulling a firetruck. Alas, Kelly trotted him in and he never got quite forward enough and dropped two rails. I do have to give her credit for a hell of a ride to the triple. He is tough through those and she was flawless. Fierce Black Mamba. Angela tackled the Novice course and did an epic job staying on. Cali cracked his back over every jump and she managed to stick the landings double clear and somehow make it look smooth. It was really nice to have Debbie and Don watching, and pleased with the partnership. Don had tears. Sunsprite sure loves their horses. Jenny saddled up and headed out to phase A, unaware that the equine version of the Exorcist was about to be filmed. Everything was well and good until they caught up with a lost western pleasure rider and Jenny wasnt sure if she could pass. Oz wasnt happy with the hold up. By the time they reach Phase B, there was a bit of a back up and Oz had to stand and watch steeplechase which was too much for his psyche. So the normal TB dancing, spinning, half rear, mini bolts take place until its his turn. They finish that and head out to phase C only to meet up with western pleasure again. This time she passes, but Oz spots another horse in the distance and rounds the turn towards home. This is where filming began. The devil enters his body and as he gets within sight I can here him grinding his teeth from a quarter mile away. Not irritated grinding, manic grinding. As he reaches the 10 minute box sideways Jenny gets off and I go to his head and take on the role of the priest. My memory is sketchy on the movie details but Im pretty sure the priest had it pretty bad. Oz had lost his _______ mind. Ive dealt with a lot of hot TBs and this wasnt my first rodeo. I was fine and we just had to chat a bit about calming down and minding our manners. The vets came over and tried to start taking his vitals and it turned into a Godzilla movie with people running and screaming. At that point I became THAT trainer. Who in Gods name would put a child on that animal. I was taking the Lords name in vain anyway and the TD was called. As we were discussing how much time we had to perform an exorcism and still make it to the startbox, Ozs head spun around 3 times, reared straight up and I told the TD we would be adding a W to the score sheet. Long formats will no longer be on the agenda. So the day ends with Kelly in 7th, Ally in 14th, Angela in 1st and Jenny cutting a movie deal. Cross Country tomorrow. I hope a romantic comedy is playing.
