Well, today was the third or fourth day of trying a new system -- still speaking almost exclusively Russian to Elisabeth, except speaking Spanish for the 1 - 1.5 hrs before her first nap. So far, my head hurts and I need more coffee!! Its interesting to me, though, as a case study of how the brain is wired, especially linguistically. Theres a phenomenon in our brains with language where we put different languages in different contexts of when theyre useful -- this language with this person, that language with that person, etc. Right now, after over a year of only speaking Russian to Elisabeth, its really, really hard to speak Spanish to her. When I talk to a Spanish speaker or do anything with Spanish outside of the context of talking to Elisabeth, it flows much more naturally, but when talking to her, I keep accidentally slipping into Russian, forgetting *extremely* basic words and accidentally replacing them with Russian, etc. My brain is trying to *force* me to speak Russian. I know this will pass with consistency, but right now, coffee. ¡Venceré!
