Welsh Cup Round 1 Kinmel Bay Sports 3-4 St.Asaph City FC Fantastic result for the Saints once again today. Playing in the biggest cup competition in Wales, missing some key players and playing away to a very good side who put 8 past there last opponents you would not have been far wrong in calling us big underdogs! But after watching another tremendous display of guts and determination from the 13 players involved, were we really the underdogs or do we need to realise that we are just a very good team who can turn over any side in this current division home or away! Starting the game with just 2 subs the saints started strongly and had their opponents under some early pressure. You would be naive to underestimate this very good Sports side who had bags of pace upfront and ave us a stark reminder when Danny Cambell was quickest to latch on to a bit of uncertainty at the back to eventually tap in for the lead. Just like Tuesday there was another Hat-Trick hero upon us for the Saints Step forward young 17 year old Jamie Jones to battle for the ball, win it and loft it quite nicely over the keeper! Some more dismal defending by our standards let Bay back in 2-1 up, free kick in and some poor marking letting Cambell have the simplest of headers for his second. Back come the fighters again, Ste Williams grafting down the left flank and the opposition claiming the ball is out, Williams quite rightly plays to the whistle gets the ball in and somehow Jones gets a foot on it for his second of the Game! 2-2 WAIT A MINUTE Jones finds himself in space 20yards out on the half volley and smashes beyond the helpless Kinmel Bay keeper. Its a superb strike from the young gem and gives him his first senior Hat-Trick and im sure not his last! Saints go into the break 3-2 up! The changing room is upbeat and we all have a positive chat and head into the second period full of positivity! Early in the second period both of these good even sides trade early chances but its the Saints who assert themselves, Jordan Owen takes one of his trademark long throws and all of a sudden Tuesdays hero Adam Cassidy finds himself with a yard of space in the box and very cooly slots it past the rushing keeper with the outside of his right boot! 4-2 Kinmel Bay are now having there best 5 minute spell of the game and it pays off with a great through ball splitting our defense and calmly dispatched! 4-3 Saints This could now be a nervy last 15 minutes, the opposition try there best to press forward but the defense is holding tight and Saints even still coming with breaks of their own to kill the game off. The Final whistle is blown and the Saints have a well deserved victory in this most prestigious competition and look forward to the next round, maybe Europe! We can all dream :-) Tremendous effort from a once again united hard working skillful team full of promise. Well done boys! COYS Match Report by Ben Williams
