Went and watched Lucy, and all I can say is that Scarlett Johansson is absolutely phenomenal. A total kick-ass heroine in a super-stylish, inventive, and incredibly exciting movie, with fantastic action sequences. The premise is scientifically preposterous, but Morgan Freeman shows up to lend it some mild credibility. Its writer and director is Luc Besson channeling many of his previous features, especially La Femme Nikita, The Professional, and even The Fifth Element, all of which feature strong female protagonists. This is basically a story about a female assassin who develops superpowers and goes on a quest of revenge against a vicious Taiwanese drug lord. But it is also more than that, and I think it really becomes a different kind of film than most may expect. It also reminded me of The Transporter, or even Crank, for the manic, non-stop energy of the whole thing, and Johansson is a good female version of Jason Statham. It does contain hefty moments of sadistic violence. But I really hope people go to see this instead of Hercules. Definitely recommended.
