Were you in the #Bitterne are of #Southampton during the early hours of this morning? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in Hood Road, Arden Close or Edelvale Road? Detectives investigating a series of suspicious fires want to hear from you if you did. Sometime between 2.20am and 2.40am, a fire was set at two flats next to each other in Hood Road. One of the flats was unoccupied at the time, and the lone occupant of the other was woken by the smoke alarm activating, and luckily managed to escape unharmed. Shortly after, at about 3.20am, we received a further report of a vehicle on fire at the junction of Arden Close and Edelvale Road. Two vehicles parked in the road were damaged by fire, one sustaining minor damage, but the other is likely to be beyond repair. Detective Sergeant Will Whale, who is leading the investigation, said: “The scenes of the two incidents are less than half a mile apart and, whilst they can’t be positively linked at this stage, we are considering all the possibilities. “On this occasion nobody was injured, but this could have been much more serious. I would ask any members of the public who saw or heard anything at either of these locations to contact Bitterne CID on 101 as soon as possible. Today fire investigators and police forensic teams are examining the scenes. A team of ten detectives are working on a number of lines of enquiry and specially trained officers are interviewing the victims. Did you see anything? Do you know who might be responsible? If so, call us now on 101, or you can leave information anonymously with #Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Incident number 44140258637.
