Students will learn the top 10 things they need to know to take their bands from the basement to the stage in this new digital music industry, hosted by Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis of public radios Sound Opinions. With more than 40 years experience as journalists and critics between them covering the music biz, they will provide an insiders guide to practical business-related topics for students interested in a career in the music Industry as artists, managers, or producers, including how to market your music, common mistakes young artists make, who you should have on your support team (do you really need to pay a manager, agent, p.r. person?), how to get noticed at home, on the road, and a festivals like SXSW, legal issues and concerns, and new trends in the music industry.
