What Is Oil? ‘‘What can I do to help you? Elisha asked. ‘Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied’ 2 Kings 4:2 Which is easier, when you are pursuing money or when money is pursuing you? Obviously it is easier when money is pursuing you. When money is pursuing you, won’t you just stop and tell it to catch you. Or what will you do if money is pursuing you? God is saying to you and I, if you focus on the oil, financial abundance will never be an issue. What is the oil? I am going to attempt to help us locate the oil. When we are done, you will see how seemingly simple it is to locate the oil. And then the ball will be in your court. The first thing you need to understand is that the oil has to be something of value. You have to be a person of value. You cannot deploy all the value there is. So you have to find what is of value that you are gifted for. Something you are talented in. What is of value that you are good at doing? That is your first step to locating your oil. So you need to find something that is of value and that you are good at. However, that is not enough to locate your oil. You need something that is of value, that you are good at, plus you enjoy doing. But that is still not enough to locate your oil. The final variable lies in the final instruction Elisha gave to the woman ‘go and sell the oil’. That means that oil is something of value that I am good at, that I enjoy doing, and that someone will pay me for doing it. So my oil is something of value that I am good at, that I enjoy doing, and that someone is willing to pay me for. If I have something that I am good at, I get paid for, and I don’t enjoy doing then what I have is a job. If it is something that I am good at, I enjoy doing, and I don’t get paid for it then I simply have a hobby. For instance, I consider myself one of the best footballers in the world and I even have a track record to prove it. I am good at it, I enjoy doing it. In fact I can play soccer from morning till night. Not only do I play soccer physically, I play soccer on the console – PS3. But I don’t get paid. Is that my oil? No! So I better leave it alone because I have to build a family and wont tell them stories in future if i fail to lay a good foundation for them. I am good at it, I enjoy doing it, but I don’t get paid for it. So I cannot build my oil on that, in fact that is not my oil. Prayer: Father, help me locate my oil in this season, in Jesus Name.
