I heard this gorgeous program tonight, and while I could go on and on about Angelas warm yet clear and pearly tone, the remarkably even timbre throughout her range, the stunning messa di voce, and her remarkable ability to subtly change vocal color to reflect the era and language of the songs she sings...and all of those things would be reason enough to go to her recital...but the real reason to go is that every note Angela sings is distilled from her heart, perfectly transparent, absolutely honest, and the product of a thoughtful, deep, seeking, emotionally and spiritually courageous life. When such a singer meets, with wisdom and respect, the music of great composers and great poets...the result is a declamation of words and music that is fused on a rare plane of truth. Angelas singing is supported by the preternaturally intuitive Rebecca Stager on piano, whose two hands weave myriad voices to dialogue with, contextualize, and support Angelas singing.
