What does Grace look like? Just a few years ago I was as close - TopicsExpress

What does Grace look like? Just a few years ago I was as close to God as I have ever been. I was atop the mountain, you could say, reading the Bible, praying, listening to praise music. I felt like I was working at keeping Him close to me and was aware of His hand on me constantly. I noticed His blessings everywhere, and was overwhelmed by His goodness. Now I am in a different place. I have been too angry, too sad, and really just too tired (because grief seems to be, above all else, exhausting), to put any effort into my relationship with God. I can’t focus when I read or pray, I don’t want to listen to any music, and I don’t feel like talking about it. I’m on a break. And yet God is blessing me just as much as He did when I was working at it. I cannot deny His presence in my life, the little ways in which He covers and loves me daily, and the Great Big Blessings I don’t even recognize as such. It strikes me suddenly that this is Grace. I have had many private messages and conversations with you, my Facebook friends, about the chapter in my book (Miles to Go) on Grace. I believe we can show our students grace because it is shown to us. The kind of consistent love and grace God gives us is our model. There have been some natural consequences of my behaviors during this hard time of life. I am living in and with those. Our students must suffer consequences of their choices, too. But God loves me. He hasnt condemned me, or treated me differently. He knows, and I know, that often when we are hardest to love is when we need love the most. This Thanksgiving, let us be mindful of His grace and pass it on. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. You are a blessing to me.
