What does Indiegogo have to do with Uber? A lot, actually. There are over 9000 startups in the Collaborative Economy spanning sharing, maker, crowd funding. Collectively, these startups are powerful: they enable the crowd to get what they need from each other --rather than buy from inefficient institutions. To makes sense of this ever-changing, rapidly-growing, brand-new market, I worked with Alexandra Samuel and her team at Vision Critical to distill this market into a useful taxonomy. We found five families, eleven classes, and thousands of species. We also provided a quick matrix of how brands are executing against these categories, which Ill distill further into a future graphic.
