What does the word Pushti mean? In the Sanskrit language, the words pshan, pushti are derivatives from push dhat. The body is maintained by an in take of nourishing food. A person with a strong healthy body is said to be pusht. This can be explained further. When we are small, we are completely taken care of by our mothers. We are quite helpless in managing matters like healthy diet, etc. But Mother loves us, so she takes special tender loving care. This support and help which is provided without any asking is called krupa, mercy or compassion. Now this same word krupa, in Sanskrit has many meanings. It can mean grace, nourishment, support. This is exactly why our path is know as the Pushti sampraday, because God himself graces us, supports us just the way a child stumbles while learning to walk and his parents help him to stand up and walk; we are unable to do anything to attain God, but God being merciful, bestows his grace on us. He takes care of everything and us and he comes to us. Pushtimarg means the path of grace or support. The path on which, God comes to us, looking for us and bestows His mercy, is called Pushtimarg of Pushti Sampraday.
