What is happening to this world and the people who live in it today? As many of you know within the last couple of weeks I posted a message to a small percentage of those on my facebook page that I was going to take a stand when it comes to those whose postings are shared with me that use vulgar language to express themselves or to make a point. Well to my surprise I actually had what I considered a facebook friend challenge on my stance. FYI..., when someone posts something that you feel is inappropriate, you have the choice to delete it from your page. When you do, you are asked why you would like it removed. I checked the box the says that I feel it doesnt belong on facebook. Then you are asked why. I checked the box that says that the post has rude or vulgar language. Then you are asked if you would like to send a request that states that the post offends you and that you like the person posted it remove it from facebook. I sent the request because it was viewable from my page to everyone who comes to my facebook page. I thought I was making a reasonable request to a rational individual. Boy, was I wrong. I got a lecture on how unreasonable it was for me to try and control an individuals speech, and how the post was on this persons page and how dare I tell them what can and can not be on their page, which I was not. Then after chewing me out this individual decided to make it a public debate and she posted her position which made me out to be a censor on facebook for the only reason I can figure which was to rally support for the use of vulgar language on public posts. A handful of individuals backed her completely and gave me one good tongue lashing. This person went on to send me a message that hurled accusations against me along with insults. I sent a message back saying how disappointed I was that it had turned into a public debate and that I hoped we could work our disagreement out just between ourselves. I went on to explain where I was coming from as a Christian and as a public school teacher and said that although I disagreed with her that I have enjoyed the vast majority of her posts and firmly believed that everyone deserves a second chance. I went on to say as long as she would not post things for me to view on my page that used vulgarity I would like to keep her on my page. If it should happen again I said that I sadly would report the post to facebook and delete her from my page. I stated that I hoped she would not view my position in anger, that if she found herself in pain in the future she could contact me for support, and would try to understand my position. Again I received the F bomb. even though I had already indicated how that is the worst of all the swear words. I am not going to allow accusations and insults to change my stance. She kept messaging back and finally I told her that I had deleted her and I requested that she not continue sending me messages. I had heard and understood her position. It was loud and clear. Is this where we are headed in this country? Where the line between wrong and right is so easily crossed. Where what was considered unacceptable is now the norm? Not for me. Again if you disagree fine. If you feel you must use vulgarity to express yourself/get your point across because you are not intelligent enough, or mature enough, or educated enough, or you can call it what you will then please delete me because I do not accept that use of that type of language and since I do not want anything on my facebook page that anyone would have a problem viewing, it is better for us to part. As I also stated I sincerely will miss interacting with you, but I do not want the family members and friends on my page to be exposed to your poison. Listen to the song Grandpa by the Judds.
