What is the difference between programmer and web developer? A - TopicsExpress

What is the difference between programmer and web developer? A programmer is involved with making applications, often programming in C++ or Java. A web developer would be someone who is specialized in building web sites. A web developer might know how to create flash movies; create graphics using programs like photoshop; use scripting languages like javascript, php, asp, and others; know how to work with databases; editing video files; and a variety of other applications. In general, I think web developers would be a subset of programmers. But they would also have skills that may not directly relate to programming. Furthermore, one does not need to have any programming knowledge to develop web sites. Although I would hesitate to call someone who just uses a WYSIWYG editor a web developer. Think of it this way, a programmer builds the browser you use when looking at the web, and a web developer creates the content you look at on the web.
