Whats the buzz in Philadelphia? Dec 8-11th will be our 3rd Accreditation Course in Philadelphia in under 2 years! By partnering with Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Accreditation Course in Organic Land Care has continued to evolve with new topics, new teachers and students coming from all over the country. Whats new? Site visit to the PECO green roof. This year we will spend 3 hours on the rooftop, having lunch and two classroom sessions while looking over the dormant green roof, prior to our tour outside on the 8th floor of the PECO building. Social Mixer with guest speaker, Anna Shipp - Students have asked to get together socially after class, share relevant experiences, and network with teachers and classmates. This year, PHS is hosting the mixer on Day 2. Anna, Project Manager of GSI Partners from Sustainable Business Network of Philadelphia, will be giving brief remarks about what SBN offers members and details about its Green Stormwater Infrastructure Partnership. Day 4 of the Accreditation Course offers 2, 4 hour tracks to choose from: Organic Turf Management with the always compelling Chip Osborne. Sessions include: Transitioning to Organic Turf Tools in Your Toolbox for Organic Management Fundamentals of Creating an Organic Turf Management Program. Stormwater Management - Designed by Glen Abrams of PHS, this track will offer the big picture of what is causing this interest and promotion of GSI techniques and installations and then bring this down to the project level. Sessions are broken into the following topics: The Regulatory Environment for Stormwater Institutional/Commercial GSI Applications Residential GSI Applications Construction of GSI Maintenance of GSI What does this mean for NOFA Accredited Organic Land Care Professionals? You are welcome to come an attend any 1 day of the course to update your knowledge in these subject areas while earning your 4 CEU credits! You are welcome to suggest this course to colleagues or employees who you think would be interested, and you will receive a $25 credit towards Accreditation fees or programming. You are in good company, as NOFA OLC enters its 13th year of offering the 30 hour Accreditation Course which has educated over 1500 professionals!
