When His Holiness the Dalai Lama was asked what one thing people could do to help the world he responded, “Be kind.” We all want a world where people are kind to us, a world that embraces each other’s differences. In our own personal lives, it’s usually among relatives and friends where this practice is most needed. Ram Dass once said, “If you think you’re enlightened, first go spend a week with your parents.” It’s actually wise to start with kindness at home, and even with ourselves. So what if you and I would just bring in more kindness today? We could look for moments to be a little more gracious, more honoring of each other, of ourselves. We could celebrate our amazing differences and rather than define them or categorize them, just embrace them. Remember we have a vast universe that specializes in differences.
