When I first shared this video last night, I had no idea that I would get a call today telling me that an old friend of mine - someone I knew well when he was the age Ben Breedlove was when he made this video - had died last night. As I understand it, BRANDY SWEAT passed away last night around 3 am. Brandy and I (along with my brother and his sisters) were members of ST. James UMC and all of us were very, very active in the MYF program at the church. Brandy was also a good friend (still is/was) of my brother, Chips. Every once in awhile I would get a crazy FB message or email from Brandy and he would always sign it LooseEffie (half of the famed LooseEffie and Ethyl team at ST. James - Chip was Ethyl). Brandy was a precious soul, a good man and a great father to his beautiful disabled child, Hallie. And when I got that call a little while ago, Brandy wasnt a 55 year old man, slightly beat up by the tough breaks life had dealt him but still swinging. In my mind, Brandy was and always will be that adorable 17 year old boy who met my prom date at my front door dressed in my mothers bathrobe with cold cream on his face and curlers in his hair. Hes the handsome, funny, charismatic young man I made sure to be at home for when he came to visit my brother . . . . and he always will be. xxxooo You will be missed, LooseEffie, but we will meet again. In the meantime, try to behave up there!
