When I read that Adu was on the TBD list, my heart sunk. His life - TopicsExpress

When I read that Adu was on the TBD list, my heart sunk. His life was hardly a life at all; he spent all 15 years of it in a boiler room, his job, as a watch dog. I am sharing this story, like my friends at Second Chance Rescue, because we all want to make sure that folks know...SENIOR DOGS MATTER! Adu gave his entire life to an owner that didnt value his life like perhaps you or me. In return, Adu was turned into NYCACC. The following excerpt was written by a NYCACC volunteer, who had the opportunity to work with Adu: To Adus family- I thought you might like to know how your boy spent his time at ACC. I took his pictures and wrote his bio. He was growly initially, not really welcoming of any of us, and after reading your comments about him I can see why. It sounds like he wasnt socialized much, barks at strangers, and lived his life in your yard or boiler room - not in a small kennel a midst loud barking dogs, constant activity, and every one of us a stranger to him. He eventually let me leash him and take him for a walk, but flinched to my touch even while enjoying my treats. In the beginning Im sure he thought you were coming back for him......but after a while I guess he realized it wasnt happening and he got more and more depressed.....he would no longer come out of his kennel, laying against the back wall with his back towards the door. He wouldnt budge. Nothing could convince him to come out of his kennel. He had to be carried to the euthanasia room when it was his time and that image will haunt me for a very long time. How sad that you did not think enough of him to have him euthanized at home, surrounded by the family he loved, instead of being left in a strange place, to die scared and alone. Shame on you. At least some of us cared for your dog at the end.....he gave you 15 years of his life, and at the end you gave him nothing. Rest in peace, Adu...your loyalty is not forgotten. xoxo
