When I was a mere lad, I had a bicycle. Nothing fancy. The harder I pushed the pedals, the faster the bike would go. All was well with the world until I saw it. A red three speed Schwinn Stingray Bicycle with a banana seat. All of a sudden my bike became a rust bucket with “Jimmy” one speed. Somehow I coped with life and kept pedaling until I got my driver’s license. At sixteen any car will do as long as it has wheels and the engine purrs. But you get older and tastes change. All was well until I saw it. A candy red Chrysler LeBaron convertible. Man could I see myself sitting behind the wheel with what little hair I have blowing in the breeze. Life would be good. This is a reminder that we have to be careful. As we look out at what we don’t have, there’s the temptation to think if only I had this or that, life would be better. In the meantime, we miss the life we’re living now. “Don’t covet.” (Exodus 20:17) It’s a heart issue. It’s a living life issue. Look up before you look out. Look to the Lord, the Generous Giver, “Who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” (1 Timothy 6:17) Enjoy your day. Content in Him!
