When making this Facebook page, I see an opportunity to really show some of my work and talk about what went into making it and how I feel about it. So, I thought about it, and I actually came up with a list of my top 10 personal favorite short films/short documentaries that Ive made. And so, I thought I would share them with you, starting tomorrow. Today, I have some honorable mentions. Tomorrow, Ill reveal numbers 10-8 on my list; the next day, 7-5; the next day, 4-2; and finally, on Monday, Ill reveal my personal-favorite film of my own (so far). So, lets start with one of the three honorable mentions. *I Could Use a Little Help* Its not on the list because I didnt direct it or shoot it. Jonathan Clark directed it, Jake Lurvey shot it, I just edited it. Although, there was hardly a script. We knew right from the start that we were going to make somewhat of an art-piece about a girl who walks through the city alone and lonely and imagines herself in nature, but shes still all alone in her fantasy and she realizes it and has to escape it. With that said, I had the freedom to edit it the way I thought would work because there was hardly a script or a story. This project was an assignment for Digital-Filmmaking-1 at UCA. Jonathan, Jake, and I were one of many teams among our classmates who had to create a music video. It had to be original or music we could get the rights to use. Jake said he knew someone who could get in touch with the band The Sound of the Mountain so we could use one of their songs. Once that was done, we had permission to use their piece, I Could Use a Little Help. We all loved it and decided to use it. This was an attempt to create something artful and abstract, the kind of thing I was interested in trying out, having seen many experimental shorts at the Little Rock Film Festival in the past few years. Gorgeous cinematography (I really gotta give Jake props for his look here; I think its fantastic), heavy music score all throughout, and editing that goes back and forth between central focuses (even certain points where fast cuts match certain rhythms of the music, my favorite being when Nikki, as the girl, crosses the crosswalk). Im not sure Id do it again, since it consumed a lot of time to get this completed and most people I showed it to were turned off by it because of how unusual it was anyway, but I like this video and Im proud of what I edited from this look and this song. I think my favorite moment is near the end, when Nikki puts her hand to the ground and then has to let go, presumably of her fantasy. I thought the music fit it perfectly. Something I have to wonder if what the actual Sound of the Mountain band members think of it. I think Jake sent it to them; I should ask if he heard anything back from them about it, because Im very curious. https://youtube/watch?v=Yu6z35CiO1w
