When ordering food at restaurants these are the top questions I usually ask... 1. [Before ordering meat] Is the meat in this dish either locally or organically raised? (Unfortunately, here in NC, unless you specifically go to a restaurant that features local food the answer to this is usually no.) 2. [Before ordering seafood] Is this fish wild-caught? (Because thats what I prefer over farm-raised.) 3. [Before ordering soups, salad dressings and even appetizers like dumplings] Has this item been made in house from scratch? (Things are not always what they seem - see below.) We recently stopped at a little sandwich shop on the way home from our Thanksgiving trip and when I asked #3 about their soup offering (that sounded kind of good) the answer was No, we get a pre-made soup base pack from [insert X industrial food company] and just add water and a few things to it. Um, no thanks! If the soup would have been made in house I would have totally ordered it.
