When you examine all the religious beliefs in the world, they all - TopicsExpress

When you examine all the religious beliefs in the world, they all revolve around a certain way of looking at the world and examining claims. For most belief systems the religion is the core representation of identity and culture. These beliefs have made very specific claims about the nature of the universe and none of them have been correct in the very least of scientific terms. At work is a rudimentary methodology of faith instilled primarily by cultural heritage. These systems of belief have been and are conflicting with a new way of thinking that demands a higher standard for the truths it lays claim to. It is easy for us to forget that a few centuries ago, people were still being burned alive for challenging church doctrine, or that a simple observation of a curious Italian astronomer could reasonably upset the highest religious institution of his time into forcing his claims into coerced silence. Fear, it seems is the fuel that drives the preservation of belief under the guidelines of faith. We see it today in the hate filled rhetoric of supposedly loving Christians who oppose gay marriage and the desperation with which they seek to reassert their mythical claims into science classrooms and subvert the dispersal of knowledge that undermines their perspective. What we are observing in first world societies is an evolution of human thinking to a new level of rationality and abandonment of the supernatural as a valid explanation for natural phenomenon. The discomfort of this transition is disquieting and has and will continue to bring violence from those who cannot cope with a changing world, but I suspect their rage will subside quickly in relative terms to its prolonged existence until now given the prospect of a world progressing beyond the problems of our past with scientific discovery.
