Whether a meat-eater, vegetarian, or vegan, our customers and guests have enjoyed seeing photos of, and even spending time with our joyful, romping, gleeful baby goats and watching the tender moments between mother and kid in our pens and pastures. Many have marveled at the beauty and rich personalities of our turkeys and other birds. Many of you know our charismatic roosters, Claude and Puffy, by name. Would you enjoy them as much if you knew they were destined for the dinner plate, usually in early adolescence or even as babies? Would you feel sad if their bright lives would be cut short for a moment of palate pleasure? Would you enjoy our cheese, knowing that it meant a tiny kid would go without having the affection of his mother and the best nutrition that comes from her own milk? Here at our farm, we value even the littlest of lives. Babies here are raised by their mothers, knowing the species appropriate nurturing of her love. No animal is sold for food and we routinely are gifted funds to rescue the refugees of the animal agriculture industry. Our does are given two years between pregnancies and we use natural breeding from live bucks so that she has some involvement in her reproductive life. Does are retired at an age where pregnancy will not be a risk to her health. The wildlife who call this space home, the rabbits, prairie dogs, wild birds are given sanctuary and respect and make a bountiful life from the second harvest of what our animal residents are fed. Having been a veteran of the animal agriculture industry, I saw what was wrong and tried to change it here at my own farm. I have tried to work within a product medium that generally disrespects motherhood, joy and life. Which is why I also advocate for a diet free from meat, milk and eggs. I will ask again that you consider joining us for Veganuary (and beyond) and participate in a dialogue with us about the direction our farm and agriculture itself will take. Please feel free to comment, ask questions. We have lots in store to continue the success of our business while supporting and caring for our animals with love and dignity. We would love to have our fans on board and aware of the challenges and victories with every step.
