While Brooklyn was in Iowa with her Mimi, catching fireflies, eating fish bait (hot dogs, sickos), and otherwise having the time of her life with her aunt, uncle, cousins, friends, and the aforementioned Mimi, I wanted to sit around and wallow in a pitiful state of missing her. Nora and Sami convinced me otherwise... So we went to Bend. We hiked Smith Rock on Saturday (Sami will tell you we went up Misery Ridge and came down Monkeyface with an awful lot of pride), tried out stand up paddle-boarding on Sunday (sorry, no pics, because water) where Nora the Natural and Sami the Stupendous definitely did better than yours truly, Tim the Twice-Dunked, and finished the great day with a BBQ with Tim and Heidi Daiker and their family. Monday found we three comfortably astride Shrek, Cougar, and Roper (Noras, Samis, and my horse, respectively) for a fantastic trail ride - even if Roper was a bit of a testy equine. Tuesday, Sami lived up to the challenge of making us breakfast by chopping onions and bell peppers, slicing 1/2lb of bacon, and creating a 7 egg scramble that was, according to Nora (and I emphatically concur), better than the scramble at The Original Pancake House. The final picture is of Sami slicing brussel sprouts for dinner Wednesday night. She also made her own marinade and, after four hours in her mix, grilled the steaks that were so good they didnt last long enough for me to get a pic. She is quite the young chef!! Sure am glad I didnt sit on the couch all week... #makeitbetter
