While working on a project this morning, I jumped over to Facebook - TopicsExpress

While working on a project this morning, I jumped over to Facebook for a moment and saw my friends posting of First Day of School pictures at one of Milwaukees public language-immersion schools. (Milwaukee, for those who dont know, has various public immersion elementary schools in which all instruction is taught to students in a foreign language, including French, Spanish, and German.) Knowing that these schools are constantly fund-raising in order to survive and flourish, an idea hit me: Many software projects, including my own, require a global presence. The traditional route is to hire a translation house to provide contextual translation in various key languages for all the fields, labels, and other content throughout the software (whether its a mobile app or a website). Validation of the translation is often then left to another party, for the purposes of independent testing. Schools like the Milwaukee French Immersion School and other immersion schools in the MPS system could offer translation services for these kinds of projects in exchange for donations to the schools. It would be a win-win scenario, helping the projects achieve a more affordable translation solution and helping the schools to further their respective missions.
