While working with the stud mares over the weekend I have again released how incredibly important it is to use mares at stud that shows a specific temperament towards human interaction and the inquisitiveness to learn. The latter must be evident in any environment of asking the horse to do something, not only in its comfort zone. This is so important when considering breeding horses for future riding horses no matter the discipline. To many times I have seen mares as part of the back ground scenery at studs and this is so wrong. They need the interaction and exercise to keep them healthy both mentally and physically since this will directly correlate on the resultant foal’s quality.
