Who was blessed with terrific (easy) temporary duty while awaiting your schools or sea assignment? I had an 8 week delay at NTC Orlando while waiting to get placed into nuclear power school. I was assigned to Transient Personnel Department. I basically managed a hotel for people getting discharged from the Navy. I worked 9-3 five days a week with NO DUTY. Upon finishing my nuclear training I arrived (when my orders specified) at Naval Station San Diego to find my assignment (USS Truxtun CGN-35) had just left for refresher training. I worked from 9-2 four days a week as a bailiff. I watched people charged with desertion getting Bad Conduct Discharges (aka Big Chicken Dinners). Again NO DUTY. Then I experienced my first sea going assignment (Truxtun) and came to grips with REAL Navy life. It really made me appreciate my previous skate assignments.
