Why CAD Group utilises Blue guns - Art of the Blue Gun In Australia we are restricted in both training and freedom of movement to maintain vital skill sets. To address this, we must push every option available to its limits in an effort to stay in the game. Introduce the Blue Gun/ Inert Training Aids. For those in the industry you would have experienced these training aids in one form or another. As a gunfighter, our ability to effectively employ our weapon systems in any scenario and environment is vital. This is our core skill and front line of offence/ defence in a high threat environment, so why neglect the very avenue that will help maintain both operational readiness and effectiveness? You have an obligation to yourself as a professional and society to effectively and safely employ your firearm with the best possible outcome. The current standard for WAPOL Officers is one shoot a year for 45 minutes and in the “Professional Security Industry” it’s not much better. Each student develops at a different rate and more often than not, training standards are quite minimal/ non-existent within professional Australian organisations. This is all conducted in a sterile environment and with the intent to mass produce a semi-competent force with the most basic of training. You may load and action your firearm every day before shift or make clear and safe at the end but that is the only regular interaction you have with your firearm. Confidence and ability to operate under duress can only be achieved if skills are constantly maintained, reviewed and training conducted when under duress. What happens when you need to engage a target around a corner that requires you to transition to your support side to make the shot? Or your primary arm is injured and you are required to shoot with your support hand or better yet conduct a reload under duress? We also understand this can be quite an intimidating subject and as such minimum bookings can be made for either paired work (with a friend) or group size of 10. Ladies there is no reason for you to not get involved in this either. It applies to all. Warfighting is an unforgiving experience and you either do it right and go home or lose and be seriously injured, or worse. Every skill we have is perishable. Each course is therefore provided with the intent to build on top of a basic understanding and skill level so as to enhance capability in adverse conditions. The skills learnt from the basic workshop help you to safely manipulate your firearm whether operating as a singleton or in a small team environment. Formal or specific training doesnt need to stop after the Academy or after attending your one day shoot on a security course. Whilst the above method of training with blue guns does not negate the need for live fire exercises, we are restricted here in Australia and as such we must adapt. Train hard and stay deadly (Y)
