Why Wont They Listen? 2 Kings 17:13-18 The book of Second Kings - TopicsExpress

Why Wont They Listen? 2 Kings 17:13-18 The book of Second Kings records the deliberate rebellion by both the religious and political leaders who governed Israel and Judah, from King Solomons reign to the end of the Northern Kingdom. Repeatedly the Lord bore witness against the sins of both nations through the testimonies of His servants the prophets, seeking to warn His people to turn from their wickedness, especially from the idolatry that plagued the land. It is simply incomprehensible to us today when we read of both the political and religious leaders of Israel and Judah choosing to worship false deities and to believe in superstition rather than the one true God. The Bible records Israels worship of Baal, which engulfed the Northern Kingdom and seeped down into the Southern Kingdom, no doubt due to the political alliances established by their kings. Sadly, it is no different in our own time. Many in the world today believe there is no real distinction between the various deities worshipped in the worlds religions. Some even attempt to blend the religions, taking the good from each one and combining it into a mixture that is deemed beneficial for everyone. Do not allow this sort of pragmatic thinking to entrap you, dear saint of the living God! The true God, the Creator of the world, has given mankind a clear, undeniable witness through His apostles and prophets in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. The only acceptable way to access and worship the one, true God of the universe is through His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ (Jn.14:6; Acts 4:12; 16:31); it is only through Christ that God the Father can be genuinely worshipped in spirit and in truth (Jn.4:24).
