Why do we celebrate Christmas? It’s definitely not about Christ anymore. One of the wealthiest nations celebrates the birth of Christ by giving presents, because well, we deserve it. It’s as if the gift of Christ wasn’t enough. Why is it that if I were not to give any of my family members a gift, I would have this overwhelming guiltiness inside? If for Christmas instead of giving my family gifts, I gave it to the poor – why is it my family would feel an inkling of being unloved or cheated? Why is it that the only due respect to Christ’s birth is an empty church ritual? Why is it we thank God for coming into the world, but the words resound as a hollow echo as Christmas time commences? Why is it that our conception of Christmas is so skewed? After all, you’ve been trying to justify your traditions of gift giving the whole time while reading this. Maybe Happy Holidays is a better title after all
