Will 2.5% be the new tax rate for some lucky Oregonians…not 5, - TopicsExpress

Will 2.5% be the new tax rate for some lucky Oregonians…not 5, 7, 9 or 9.9% like the rest of us pay? Obviously, someone doesn’t want the public or legislators to know the details of the business owner tax breaks tucked into the “Grand Bargain”. It’s 10:00 pm the night before the Legislature gathers to vote--and there is still no bill language for us to read. Maybe the Governor hopes that legislators will go along not realizing that tucked into the bill is a gift to certain business owners that will lower their tax rate to 2.5%. No one else gets such a low income tax rate. These business owners should be paying 7, 9 or 9.9% on their profits. But because they export their product abroad, they can have this special 2.5% rate. Why, because their wine, Christmas trees, wheat or hazelnuts are sold to China or Japan rather than to California or New York? This makes no sense. Email or call your legislator and ask: “Will you be voting “no” on the business owners tax breaks bill or do you think it’s a decent compromise to give some taxpayers a 2.5% tax rate?”
