Will They Ever Be Rescued??? Now I remember 2012s NLC and TUCs fuel subsidy demonstration. I guess that was a very important issue right? Yes, it was. Much more important than the issue at hand now. Much more important than the lives of our young girls in that God-forsaken forest. Call me mad if you like, but I dont know any bigger issue that calls for national solidarity more than this, I dont know a bigger matter that calls for unending strike if not this. Yes, the President has promised on National television, he will bring in foreign support. Isnt that a good news? The First Lady also has shed tears on National tv, isnt that sweet? Shows how bothered she is, shows Nigerians the motherly side of our one and only Mama Dame. We have heard the promises, we have seen the tears. When will actions be taken? Last night I couldnt sleep well. Military airlines kept hovering above our roofs, threatening to dive into ceilings with scary sounds, people were scared, no one knew what was happening. I was so alert. Probably our foreign help had come, who knew? But on second thoughts I wondered if they werent supposed to be somewhere in Borno and not in Lagos, though it might not be what I was thinking. When will the foreign aids come? Is it after Shekau has sold off all our girls? Is it after he has buried them all alive and stoned them to death? Who saw that video today? Who saw how young and helpless that girl was? Who heard the whimpers? Was anyone touched at all? *Smiles*. Yes, we were all touched. But that doesnt stop us from sporting our designer suits and rushing to work tomorrow. That doesnt stop us from carrying our baskets and heading to the market does it? Afterall they are not our kids. I trust Nigerian teachers and lecturers, any small disagreement between the unions and the government, they would be in the streets carrying placards like their is no tomorrow. But this not important now, at least they are not our children. Lets keep going to work until the government does something. Lets keep making money at out different organisations and increasing governments revenue till foreign aids come, isnt that cool? Let their mothers and the few concerned ones keep protesting till something is done, it is not our business. In one of Niyi Osundares anthologies, Song of the Season, theres a poem that talks abt how Lagbaja was taken away, and no one said a word, as long as it didnt stop them from eating garri. Tamedo was taken away, still no one talked, since it didnt take away the yam from their tables, and the very day the writer was taken away, nobody came out too or said anything, because it was nobodys business. That was when he saw the sense in sticking out for each other. Is that what we want to reduce ourselves to in Nigeria? I wish I had a louder voice. I wish I could make more impact than just sitting in my room and typing my feelings. My heart bleeds for that poor girl. It bleeds more for those who are still held captives. My heart bleeds for their mothers, it bleeds for Nigeria my country. My heart bleeds for those of us who are still free, cos no one knows for how long that would be. At this point I dont see why NLC and TUC wont call on a national strike till this is sorted out. Not the insurgency in its totality, but at least till the girls are safely brought back to their parents. What can be more important than the lives of our future leaders? You may say they aint related, but that is my opinion. If we dont stick out for ourselves and forget abt tribes and religion at this point, then when else can we do that? When pump price increases again? Or when teachers salaries are not paid? Hmmm. God help us and our situation. I dont know what to type again. #BringBackOurGirls #NLC #TUC
