Winter has finally kicked up her heels and taken a hike so the beautiful country Queensland heat can show its face. We are all looking forward to the coming weekends of summer fun and activities like beach days, water skiing and pretty much any thing outdoors. Whilst we love all the fun and games - we need to remember that sun protection is vital. There have been a number of customers in store already with sunburn. Remember that ONE blistering sunburn before the age of 16, more than doubles the risk of melanoma later in life. The last 12 months have seen a new standard for sunscreens sold in Australia, where the maximum sunscreen grading is SPF50+. This grade of sunscreen has similar UVB protection, with higher UVA blocking. What does this mean?? UVB is the major cause of sunburn and risk of skin cancer; UVA can also increase the risk of skin cancer as well as contributing to the ageing of skin. Therefore by seeking the SPF50+ sunscreen this summer you are protecting your skin further from skin cancer and the suns ageing effects. TIPS FOR APPLYING SUNSCREEN: 1. Sunscreen should be applied evenly and liberally to any exposed skin at least 30 minutes before exercise or contact with water 2. Reapply every 2 hours when swimming, excessive sweating or towel drying 3. Those of you that have large sunscreen containers or old sunscreen from previous summers - CHECK EXPIRY DATES 4. Where possible seek out shade and other physical covers This link attached says it all and makes you think twice before going outside without sun protection: youtu.be/_4jgUcxMezM
