Witches are born, not made. I know a lot of people who would disagree with this statement, but I stand by it. Witches are born, even if they dont realize it for 10, 20 or even 30 years. If you are a Witch, you will probably have felt different from everyone else while growing up. While some witches get to grow up as witches (lucky them), Most dont realize it until much later in life. Many TV shows today, Charmed, show Witches in a trendy new light, and many teenagers today feel very drawn to it. While we dont come down on these youngsters, it is easy to forget that Witchcraft is a lifestyle, not something to try just because nothing else worked, not something to try because everyone else is doing it, not something to try just for fun, and certainly not something to try because we want to do a spell. Being a witch is a lot of hard work. It is a way of life, we live it, we breathe it. We look deep within ourselves and see both light and dark, we take everything thrown at us and break it down until we understand it. We respect the world around us and all who live within, like the humblest of ants, drawn to the brightest of flowers. It is important for us to realize that there are many paths that we could follow. By learning about different paths, it can not only enrich our knowledge but also guide us towards the path that will best suits us. We may follow a traditional Celtic path, or walk in the path of the Shaman. We could discover the beauty of Faery Magick or find ourself discovering the mysteries of Gypsy magick. Whichever we decide, here within this class we can show you where to start, whichever path you finally decide to go. The craft of magic isnt a common religion that many young ones fall into. This traditions is different to those or us who call ourselves Witches. Wiccans generally call themselves Witches and will never see the difference. Witches know the difference and I will attempt to convey this to you . Wiccans feel the need to be quite ritualistic, even in simple rituals, following people like Gerald Gardiner, who is considered the father of modern day Wicca. Witchcraft has been around for centuries, and back when our ancestors walked on earth, these people felt no need of fancy tools, garb, and their rituals were to celebrate the turning wheel of life. Witches celebrate the Sabbats and Esbats. Sabbats being the 4 greater Fire Festivals and the 2 Equinoxes and 2 Solstices, while Esbats are the time we celebrate the full moon. We do on occasion cast a circle, dress up and have full force ritual, but you will find on a smaller scale, we just create sacred space, with no tools at all, just our intent. I cant speak for all witches as I follow a very Shamanic/Witch path, incorporating into my rituals tools like rattles and drums. I am just as likely to honor Grandmother/Grandfather (spirits of my ancestors), as I am to honor the God and Goddess. I hardly never invoke deity, tho I have 2 Goddesses that walk with me in everyday life. I never invoke the Guardians of the Watchtowers, but I do always try to acknowledge the elements and incorporate them into my rituals. I dont have to have the cakes and ales rite within every ritual, but a sacred drink with friends is nice to share some times . I do return thanks to the Earth . I myself, work mostly with herbs, the moon (thats just me ), and like nothing more than to take a journey to the spirit world. I also deal a lot with birth charts, having only in the last few years finding out, l enjoying doing them. But Thats me, thats my path, It may not be yours. Each person has their own path to follow, and while I can impress upon you the knowledge , I have, But you, and only you can walk your path, taking what you have learned with you. Do not be in a hurry to find your path, it may not be very clear to you at first, but it will come, when you are ready, and once found, remember that most paths will have forks in them and will lead you in different directions. It is a life-long Journey You cannot learn to be a Witch, just from reading books. Sure it is OK to read them, they contain a lot of useful, valuable information, but dont fall into the trap (as I have seen many do), of taking a book so seriously, that you end up thinking you know it all, and thats the way it will be, just because a book told you so. Books are just another tool for us to use, they are handy for getting ideas and cross referencing, but reading alone will not make us witches . It will just make us knowledgeable. An example I once gave a young boy to get to this point through was: I could go and read every book I could lay my hands on about dogs, what they ate, how they played, how they live , their likes, and dislikes, but no matter how much I know about dogs, it would never make me a dog. (This is rather dramatic I know, but it did get my point across). Books are a good starting point, I dont know any witches who dont have a well stocked library. Websites, today, are another good way to get information too, lots of great sites out there, but the best experience we will ever get, is finding a teacher or mentor to sit down and go through it with you. The best teachers to find are the ones who will let you asked question, discuss and challenge them. A good teacher always learn from their students too. But remember, not one person has all the answers, so it is also a good idea to try and get into some sort of a group, whether it be a study group like ours , or on the web in a chat room. The one good thing about it , is interacting with other people . We may just see a different point of view, even if you dont agree with it To be a witch is to possess an innate power or natural ability to do things that most people don’t think are possible. Some people have a large supply of natural talent for witchcraft, which go beyond the ordinary. They are more than just psychics or mediums, but they are naturally endowed with abilities or gifts , which they usually discover early in life. While these abilities like these usually manifest early in the life of a witch, they may increase, especially later in life. Also, such latent abilities can first to manifest after a person is exposed to a severe or prolonged trauma, or in dark times in their lives . The Difference Between a Witch and a Psychic Witches may know what’s going to happen before it happens, they may have the ability to see what others do not, such as manifestations of spirits, they may be able to hear other people’s thoughts and they may have very strong emotional sensitivities. But, a true witchs power goes beyond just having highly developed psychic abilities, although this is an important part of it. Apart from having psychic abilities, natural witches are able to do things outside the ordinary. This ability is what sets witches apart from people who are merely psychic...Another way to put it is the difference between psychics and witches is to say that a psychic can foretell the future, while a witch has the ability to consciously alter it. Are You a Natural Born Witch? The only people who do not believe in witchcraft powers are those who do not possess them. Once people make the discovery that they have these abilities, they often want to develop them, hone their skills and increase their natural power. You can do this by studying a world-wide research of witchcraft (not the religion Wicca) and applying and experimenting with what you find. There are techniques we can use to develop our skills , but it comes easier to people who already know witchcraft is real and have some natural gifts or abilities . It’s harder for those who have to take a leap of faith (belief in something they have not personally experienced) to approach the study witchcraft and its underlying esoteric science. And, as wonderful as a lot of witchcraft fiction is, it can really obscure the truth about witchcraft, so people have to sort out for themselves what is “real” – what is possible and what isn’t. In fact, the term “natural witch” may very well be borrowed from the 1993 movie, “The Craft,” in which the bookstore owner tells Sarah she has natural powers inherited from her mother. But, witchcraft is not necessarily a genetic trait anymore than any other kind of natural talent. This is not to say that it can’t run in families, but more often it seems to be something thats an individual – and not – regardless of lineage. If you have had personal gifts and experiences similar to those mentioned here, then you may very well be a natural born witch. It’s up to you to study witchcraft and other aspects of magic and further develop your own abilities. CeTan
