With the number of dengue cases hitting the 600 mark last week (the highest since the epidemic in 2005), the National Environment Agency (NEA) forecasts that the situation could get worse as the typical dengue peak season approaches. As a supervisor, you can do your part to prevent mosquito breeding in construction sites and spread awareness of dengue prevention amongst the workers. Here are some of the measures you can do to fight dengue: • Step up checks around the premise of construction sites for potential mosquito breeding grounds; and • Overturn pails and water storage containers when not in use; and • Promote dengue prevention during the recreational activities organised for workers. Workers can also view useful videos on dengue prevention tips at youtube/watch?v=vKpgskKcQ4w Also, check out the upcoming play “Rojak” about the lives of foreign workers who leave their shores in search of a living. Watch how Mani, a newly arrived foreign worker, adjusts to his new environment and co-workers as he tackles issues such as workplace safety, homesickness and cultural differences.
