Woodstock 94. I was present for this one. The 36 hours leading up to this song were an epic memory for me. My friend Mark Mc Grath and I had long been planning to attend this concert, and we did. My current band at the time, Lake Trout, had booked a gig at the 8x10 and rather than welch on a commitment, I figured that I would go to Woodstock, and then I would just casually drive back from Saugherties, NY to Baltimore, MD ... then play my set with Lake Trout and drive back to Woodstock . No Problem, eh? I had actually pulled off the feat, until around 5 AM on the way back into Woodstock, the National Guard and State Police had shut down the interstate to prevent more people from crashing what was becoming a free concert. I abandoned my truck in a ditch on the side of the interstate 20 miles from the concert site, hitched a ride in the bed of a pickup truck with a local for $5 and then trekked the rest of my way on foot. Keep in mind, this was before cell phones, and I had left my friend there with our tent. I managed to get back in by crawling under a fence, found our tent, unzipped the flap, and I think the disbelief on Marks face that I had made it back equaled mine. I said something to the effect of Lets do this, went down the hill, and was treated to THIS rendition of a classic. It was like church to me ... RIP Joe Cocker and im glad your story is intertwined with one of my epic adventures. Sidenote: I had secretly doubted if Joe still had it. 5:55 into this clip answered that question emphatically https://youtube/watch?v=DPrySSpmg8c
