Wow this is incredible. The response I got was fantastic. So Here is what I have come up with in the last 24 hours. We know that CCS was initiated and funded by Bill Gates and that the other sources include seed money to James B Hunt Institute and that The National Governors Ass. and the National Council of Chief state officers, that are two DC based trade organizations, are involved. We also know that Arnie Duncan had his hands in this as well. I know there is more, but I want to keep this short. We know that Race to the top was instituted to initiate competition for funds for states and implemented at the district level and that it was agreed to accept these terms to acquire funds with the intent to institute commoncore. It was also a relief to get the no child left behind monkey off the back of the state educational system. These were standards that in reality could not be met. Thus the waiver was signed and funds were received if the state would accept the terms. Ok So lets roll up our sleeves.... This is what I propose. And I think that it will be effective because I think we are too spread out. I want everyone to go to freedomworks.org and click on their state and then input stopcommoncorein_________ ( Fill in the state) Next see if there are subgroups according to city and county. If not connect with the state and see if you have any local affiliates that are near you to initiate a small group. If there is no group consider starting one in your county. I suggest we start at the county level first. Example: stopcommoncroeinoregon/lanecountydistricts. If you find later that there are others started then connect and meld together in your district. Next within that small group delegate researchers to investigate your states initiation of CCSs. I believe for Oregon it is the governor and if I remember right he had appointed staff for the education reform about two years ago. Dr. Pesta, whom I interveiwed today from FPEusa.org in Wisconsin informed me each state is different. For some it may be your school boards etc. So start there. Next get the facts and make them brief and to the point. We all know that this is the hidden agenda of the government, but lets get down to the law and the constitutionality of it along with the huge costs to each state and the dissolution of the autonomy of parental input,Teacher curriculum and district guidance as well as Mediocre standards that retard critical thinking and delay mathematical skills for college readiness. Now we need to delegate people willing to speak to others with effective handouts and direct links to the references that the info came from. Each person interested will assume the task of educating His or Her circles of influence. Now with numbers of Parents of influence we begin to write our representatives, we can do that now, but the more numbers the better. Give them a brief summary and why this is not an acceptable standard. They may not listen but that is ok. We need to find legislators who are willing to listen and act on our behalf. We write our school board and we write our principals with brief educational summaries. We need to have a few folks from each district speak at the school board meetings. They may not listen but that is ok. We keep going and educating. If you feel led write articles to your local newspaper. Always use your social media. Now here is the nugget. We start preparing to host speakers perhaps local at first but then internationally to speak in our communities. Then we call in the media for coverage. Yes THE MEDIA. Now we must plan for more pressure on the governor, or whoever instituted this CCS without statewide citizen approval, and his constituents. WE must then advocate for state standards that are reasonable and serve to prepare our youth for a successful outcome as productive citizens in our community giving them the best advantage we can to be forward thinking, autonomous individuals. This is a simplified version. Together we can make a difference as we grow and fortify each district and then we reach across our county lines state wide.
