X.Y.Z. The company to support the the nation at large. Get this news from xyz As the entertainment industry in Zambia continues to grow, the pressure to seek diversification amongst the participants is also mounting. A lot more youthful artistes are now engaging in more than one genre of art ranging from music, acting to fashion. The same is the case for 24-year-old Zambian hip hop artiste Mwila Musonda, also known as Slap D, who recently teamed up with various partners to announce a new clothing line under the label XYZ Fashion. Firstly I want to believe that this is probably happening for the first time in Zambia, first time because I dont know of any artiste who has started a clothing line. We as XYZ group have enjoyed a large following and this is what inspired us to come up with this idea. says Mwila, founder of the Xemple Yapa Zambia (XYZ) youth group that was initially started as a fan club meant to promote the singers music label. He says the fashion line which will be dealing in XYZ-branded clothes such as jeans, caps, T- Shirts, among others is purely meant to promote Zambian youth to continue being creative and self-sufficient. For me, even the beginning of XYZ was a big step to promote our music. As you know we have to continue to be creative and earn a living. The clothing line is just an addition to our efforts of sustaining a name. We are looking at people taking an interest in our products as Zambians. XYZ Fashion is just one example that we youths can be creative and earn a living through the products we will be selling, he says adding that it is also meant to connect with the fans who will be wearing these branded-clothes. Although Mwila, whose music is usually surrounded with controversy especially that he makes references to a number of issues and personalities, believes not every Zambian is an XYZ fan, he is optimistic the idea will work. This is not for Mwila, and I want to state that people should not mix Slap Dee with XYZ Fashion. This is for Zambia to support their own. I feel this will succeed as we have a lot of the people that in their own way brand their clothes with XYZ. Just recently I saw a number of children at the show grounds being painted in XYZ by those face painters. All this suggests that we need this label and it will work. He declares. Slap D explained that in this project he is not working alone but with a number of people that have believed in his vision and want to achieve more than the XYZ name. He named Yellow, blue, black, white, orange and green as some of the colors available for the current outfits and insisted that all are styled in hip hop fashion. I want to appreciate that there are so many people that have believed in this vision and are all ready to work with the label to see that all these clothes get to the people and our beloved fans. This fashion is also in a way meant to promote hip hop and so we have all the good colors for our T-shirts, caps and jeans which they can get from our various partners he said,These partners are Envogue, Christinas Boutique, Blaze in Katondo, Desires Collection at Arcades, Macsasas Boutique in town, Soma Kays Boutique at Nagwesha Shopping Mall in Chilenje and Dejavu Entertainment. Apart from the clothing line which will be managed by Mbachi Mkalipi and Taf 1, Slap D explains that XYZ is yet to grow with brands like XYZ Cares, a charitable NGO that is planned to work with vulnerable and orphaned children both in school and out of school.
