Yesterday I had a cattle farmer tell me her cows are organic because she doesnt use any pesticide or herbicide on the grass they eat. Is it a stretch for her to call herself an organic farmer? I know that organic farmers also use pesticides and herbicides... I guess what Im really wondering is what it actually means to farm organic. I found this definition in wiki: “Organic agriculture is an ecological production management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. It is based on minimal use of off-farm inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony. ... but thats pretty damn vague, IMO. Doesnt conventional farming promote and enhance biodiversity, biologocial cycles and soil activity as well?
