Yesterday was one of those unforgettable days in our life that comes along rarely. My perspective: I started the day with a strong 4+ mile walk and came home to Deans dad on the hospital bed in the living room with Judy ODell and other loved ones periodically speaking and loving over him as he spoke in soft understandable tones. Not words. Feelings that were understandable. We were told on Friday that he would likely pass within the week so this was expected but stunning anyway. I then showered and left with Chloe Lynn ODell to go to the annual Portland to Coast Captains meeting to pick up my teams packet with shirts. This is always such a positive event and yesterday was not any different. It felt lovely sitting in the sun at Providence Park getting excited for the up and coming race. Once we got back home, Dean ODell and his brothers Dave ODell and Doug were both there ... families too. :-) Many of you know these three men. They are three of the best men I have ever met. Seriously. Loving of others in a way that you are inspired to be better, helpful without thoughts of self, and PRESENT whenever the need is there. It is remarkable, really. I love just being around them, watching them love each other and their parents. Chuck was sleeping mostly at this point. We were all close but going about our day, beginning to prepare a family lunch of spaghetti and just hang out. Caroline ODell (who is my amazing niece and also a nurse) was just about to leave for work when Judy noticed Chucks breathing was changing. And then it happened. He peacefully and quietly went to be with our Father in Heaven. I can only imagine the others there to greet him too. You see... as many of you know... he was a well loved son, brother, and friend to many already there. That brings me so much comfort when I picture that. Our lives are precious and beautiful in so many ways. I rejoice in knowing that he is no longer suffering... instead is maybe laughing under a shady tree with a glass of iced tea (with lots of sugar and spoon to stir) with many loved ones close. Love on your loved ones. Time is precious too.
