Yesterday was our first day in the village and we spent it finalising the last on the list of toilet recipients. Village life is complex and we had to decide carefully in order to keep a balance of sustainability and village harmony. The weather is crushingly hot and accompanied by erratic electricity supply, its hard to be productive. But we have it good, most villagers have no electricity at all and their small huts are stifling. Add to that mosquitos, lack of space and the daily fight for survival and one is humbled and saddened that so many of the villagers and their fellow country men have to suffer so much every day. However, our toilets can be seen everywhere and we are well on our way to having the first zero-open defecation hamlet in this area. Toilets are well kept, well used and the paths surrounding the village are noticeably more hygienic. Today we will finalise our list and distribution for domestic solar lights so that in this area too we can bring some light in the darkness.
