You are the light of the world! The light itself is invisible. - TopicsExpress

You are the light of the world! The light itself is invisible. Only when it is reflected from something, it becomes visible. There is a spiritual lesson for us to learn from this. We know that moon don’t have light of its own. Moon just reflects light of the sun to the world. Like that we don’t have light of our own. We can only reflect the light of the Son of God to others. God created light in the beginning, as His first act of creation. “Let there be light” (Gen. 1:3). Till that time “darkness was upon the face” of the earth. This same God is the source of spiritual light also. In whole of the Bible light is closely associated with God. “Jehovah is my light”, the Psalmist sang (Ps. 27:1). “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). Light is used most of the time in the Bible as a synonym for truth, wisdom and godliness. Therefore to walk in light, is to live a life as God wishes, in thoughts, emotions and works, acceptable to God. Light represent God, and darkness represent Satan. That is why Isaiah warns, “Woe unto them…that put darkness for light, and light for darkness” (Isa. 5:20). Bible talks of Jesus as “the light of men…the true light, which lights every man that comes into the world” (John 1:4, 9). This world darkened by the clouds of sin, can only be lightened by this only light, Jesus Christ. Through Christ we received “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God” (2 Cor. 4:6). When we personally accept Jesus as our savior, we become “children of light” (John 12:36, 1 Thess. 5:5). We have to go out into this world transmitting this light we got from Jesus, to everybody without any hindrance. It is impossible to hide this light from others, if Jesus dwells in our heart. Suppose if we don’t have this light that means we don’t have that relationship with Jesus, who is the source of this light. If you plan to keep the lighted candle “under a bushel” (Matt. 5: 15), then there is no purpose in lighting it. Instead we should keep it “on a candlestick”. Then why do we do this to the light of Christ? In a world filled with darkness of sin, there is no use if Christ’s disciple remains hidden without shining his Christian light to the people around him. We should be like light houses “set on a hill” (Matt. 5:14). In the darkness of this world we should be like guiding lights, so that other souls can reach safely the port of heaven. “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.” (Isa. 60:1). Through our words and actions, spread the light of the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ to the whole world. Let us not be shy or passive, withholding that information we have, for saving those precious souls, who otherwise will be lost. Through our life, let us show to the entire world, who a true Christian is – somebody who lives like Christ, following in His footsteps. May God bless us through Jesus Christ, so that we shine even brighter, transmitting the light of the knowledge of the gospel of salvation to the people around, through our actions and words. Amen.
