You can test your electronic garage door opener to make sure its reverse mechanism is working correctly (assuming the opener was made after 1992). With the garage door open, place a large piece of lumber, like a 2 x 4, on the ground where the bottom of the garage door would normally rest. Then press the button that closes the garage door. If the garage door hits the obstacle and does not reverse, you may want to call a service technician.
