You have probably heard this scripture used when there is a small crowd at a church gathering. What about as a defense when someone tells them that God might not be in the midst of their church, visibly seen because of the lack of growth, spiritual as well as numerical. "Well, He is always here ! Where 2 or 3 are gathered in My name, I am in their midst." If you do a little further study on that verse, you see that the 2 or 3 are gathered together because of Him, or in His name. Not gathered to do things their way or go thru motions week after week to check off a list, but in UNITY toward a similar purpose. BECAUSE OF HIM ! Coming to Him in prayer UNITED, not fighting over things. Notice the previous verses where he talks about getting things straight with your brothers ( anyone you have issues with ) before you come to Him. He will not be in the midst delivering blessings if there is not unity. Get things right with each other, then watch God provide what only He can in the only way He can. Look back at your history. When the blessings were there, the unity toward one common goal (VISION) was evident. Matthew 18:20 The Message (MSG) 18-20 “Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.” Matthew 18:20 New International Version (NIV) 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
