You see it all the time an ad in the paper, a post in craigslist, - TopicsExpress

You see it all the time an ad in the paper, a post in craigslist, a poster on the street light pole. Lost dog, missing, call if found. But the question is do you? Do you notice the ads and more importantly, do you notice the lost dog? Recently a Good Samaritan found a nice friendly dog running around, when she was visiting a friend. She took the dog to the vet to check for a microchip. There was one, but the phone number attached never picked up when she called. So she took the dog home and decided to keep him. She checked craigslist a couple of times, but after a week with nothing, she considered the dog hers. But the thing is, she lived more than an hour away from where the dog was found, so she never saw the lost dog announcements and never called the shelter close to where the dog was found to put in a found dog report. And after a few weeks the dog got anxious and missed his family and started having accidents in the house. The Good Samaritan realized that she could not keep this dog so took him to her local shelter. But when they heard the story they insisted that the Samaritan return the dog to the shelter near where he was found. So she did. And guess what happened when the intake officer checked the lost and found book? His owner was looking for him and had placed a lost report on the very day he went missing giving us her new phone number. This story is long and the outcome was good, but the truth is, it is rarely the case. Please microchip your pet and if you do find a lost animal, take it to your local no kill shelter and for goodness sake, dont take it away from the community looking for it. - one very happy mummy.
