It is an extracurricular activity in which the students prepare for conferences and assume the roles of different countries and organizations as represented in the actual United Nations. They share their views and debate about the issues which are of concern to the world today. The goal of MUN is to promote understanding of international relations, to inspire an awareness of the problems of the modern world and to encourage global mindedness. As an after school activity, MUN meets on a weekly basis to prepare for these conferences by researching issues, writing position papers, and drafting formal resolutions. Students are introduced to the procedural rules of the United Nations and hold mock debates on pressing world issues. MUN helps develop critical thinking, speaking, and debating skills.
