Your spirit may be willing but your flesh may be weak. Peter and - TopicsExpress

Your spirit may be willing but your flesh may be weak. Peter and the rest of the 12 apostles had a willing heart to not deny the Lord, they even made a confession that they would not.. (Matt 26:35 ESV) Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same. They had the right willingness, and the right spirit but they did not have the adequate strength, discipline, and love... The Lord told them what to do so as to not be tempted... (Matt 26:40-41 ESV) And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” The Lord instructed them to watch and pray that they would not enter temptation, but they did not do what was necessary, thus they fell to the temptation... (Matt 26:56 ESV) Then all the disciples left him and fled. There is a lesson to be learned by this... although our hearts may be willing we must do whats necessary to gain the strength to resist in the day of temptation. We must receive the word engrafted, fast, pray, and be doers of the word that we may be able to stand in the day of temptation. (Eph 6:10-18 ESV) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints We must do whats necessary to be able to stand... Start Today!
