ZEBRAS TO PLAY FOR PRIDE IN SENEGAL The senior national football team, Zebras, is expected to show little respect for Senegal when the two meet in the AFCON qualifying game this evening at Stada Leopold Sedar Senghor, in Senegal. Zebras have nothing to lose in this game because they are already out of the race therefore a win or lose will not change their standing in the Group G log. What the Zebras need to do is to play for pride, and redeem their nation’s name after performing poorly in the campaign. They were beaten by Egypt 2-0 home and away, and then Tunisia had their share by defeating them 2-1 in Tunis. However, their best performance was a goalless draw in Gaborone last weekend. They now head off to Senegal who embarrassed them 2-0 in their home ground. Zebras however will not be a walk over after their improved performance during the weekend against group leaders Tunisia. Zebras will miss Boitumelo Mafoko due to a suspension but that will not derail them from performing at their best level. Zebras have been quiet recently in front of goal but all hopes will be on the captain Joel Mogorosi to lead team upfront. The Senegal team on the other side goes into the match lying second in the group with 10 points and fresh from their 1-0 win against Egypt last weekend. They have lost only one game against Tunisia 1-0 last month and will be looking to make it double against the Zebras tonight. A win for Senegal will ensure that they finish as group winners considering Tunisia lose against Egypt. Confidence in high in the camp and they boast of players like Mame Biram Diouf who plays for Stoke City. He just returned from injury and he was the one who scored the eighth-minute goal that sealed qualification for his nation. Now all eyes will be on the Zebras today to see if they can do the impossible and beat the Lions of Teranga at their home ground for the first time in their history. Zebras coach, Peter ‘PJ’ Butler said moral is high in camp, and they have a great work ethic and he is pleased with the players’ attitude and mental strength, adding that is something they have been discussing and working on lately. “It’s no secret we don’t have the strength in depth or quality or financial muscle Senegal and most teams have but we continue to fight and punch above our weight” he said. He said Senegal is stronger than the Zebras in every aspect but they all play with pride and fight for everything. The Game is expected to start at 2000hrs. (BOPA)
