a Hindu once said to a natived missionary, 'i am sure if i lead a good life and do what is right, giving up my bad habits, God will be plased with me and receive me inot heaven.' that is the way most people reason today, replied the missionary, and that is religion. Christianith is a way of life of the living Christ in the belivers life... You know the babul tree(a tree with long, sharp torns). Now, suppose u break off from its branches a hundred or more of the nasty torns, then will the tree cease to be a babool tree? Certainly not! Suppose u shd aparently stop one or another or even many of your evil ways and habits, u would still remain the same like the babool tree... My lovely pal here on facebook, it therefore depicts that u must have an entire new nature(i.e the Christ-like nature, the Sinless nature), must become a new man, in order to please God. Only Christ can give a new heart... It will take many people for astonish when they would be told by God Almighty on the judgement day that He is sorry, simply bcos they think they were so good and kind while on earth...
