a raison detre... WHY? WALK OF LIFE... PRAY FOR PEACE! a prayer march / prayer rally an initiative of TINDOGI TAGBILARAN... in coordination with the cathedral parish of saint joseph the worker and in collaboration with the satellite parishes of the city... a prayer march / prayer rally: WALK OF LIFE... PRAY FOR PEACE!... will be held on friday, november 21, 2014. assembly time is 3:00pm... kick-off time is 3:30pm. it does not follow that just because we have called this activity as a prayer MARCH, we are going to MARCH IN CADENCE as soldiers do in a military parade. we would like to give an impression that this will be a RELIGIOUS PROCESSION with all its SOLEMNITY that accompanies it. PROCESSIONS in general have, in all peoples and at all times, been a natural form of public celebration as forming an ORDERLY and IMPRESSIVE ceremony. there are three types of religious processions in the ROMAN CATHOLIC TRADITION: 1. PROCESSIONES GENERALES which is participated by the WHOLE BODY OF THE CLERGY or the PRESBYTERIUM. 2. PROCESSIONES ORDINARIAE which is celebrated as YEARLY FESTIVALS like palm sunday and holy week and in observance of cristo rey. 3. PROCESSIONES EXTRAORDINARIAE which is ordered on SPECIAL OCCASIONS for a variety of intentions as it were an oratio imperata for rain or fine weather... during storms, famine, wars, calamities (natural or man-made)... or in thanksgiving. as the word procession itself connotes (from the Latin verb procedere which means to go forth, to advance, to proceed), we are going to move from three stationis which will serve as our kick-off points very strategic in the different parts of the City... NORTH LINE: OUR LADY OF LOURDES (k of c) [tiptip, manga, ubujan, taloto, booy, poblacion dos and cogon] / EAST LINE: SAINT JUDE THADDEUS PARISH (mansasa) [bool,dampas and poblacion uno] / and CENTRAL LINE: CITY HALL GROUNDS along j. a. clarin st. [cabawan, san isidro, lindaville, dao, poblacion tres]. it is more significant than just people walking in the same direction towards a particular convergence point. ASSEMBLY TIME is 3:00pm and KICK-OFF TIME is 3:30pm. this prayer march we are organizing is meant TO DRAW OUT and inspire unity and SOLIDARITY in what we aim... that TOGETHER we can achieve what we long for and dream of... to make tagbilaran ONCE AGAIN a SAFE, PEACEFUL, HAPPY and LIVABLE CITY! as in days past when religious processions were found in almost any form of religious worship, we will be PRAYING and SINGING from beginning to end... reciting the mysteries of the HOLY ROSARY and singing RELIGIOUS songs and MARIAN hymns. this way, we can be sure that, from START to FINISH, there pervades the ATMOSPHERE and SPIRIT of PRAYERFULNESS. isnt this an AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL IMAGE of a PEOPLE on a JOURNEY from from this EARTHLY CITY to the heavenly KINGDOM... from the here and now to the there and then! truly, in this prayer march, the FAITHFUL of the SATELLITE PARISHES of the city proceeds in a formal and organized manner towards the MOTHER CHURCH of the CATHEDRAL PARISH OF SAINT JOSEPH THE WORKER where senior citizens, persons with disabilities and the following of other religious denominations have already assembled in the cathedral grounds and plaza rizal which is designated as OUR GATHERING PLACE for a prayer rally that will follow. the PRAYER MARCH / PRAYER RALLY culminates with the celebration of the EUCHARIST... the highest form of prayer among us catholics... when the WORD IS SHARED and the BREAD IS EATEN... the image par excellence of a people in UNITY and SOLIDARITY with the LORD of CREATION, of LIFE and of HISTORY. may the almighty GOD accompany us ... as he had in times past... accompanied his CHOSEN PEOPLE of ISRAEL... as JESUS walked with the two disciples on the ROAD to EMMAUS and as the HOLY SPIRIT indwells with us and IS NOW ALWAYS WITH US on our journey as a CHURCH! BE ONE OF US... WALK WITH US... TOGETHER LET US WALK WITH JESUS! addendum: LOOKING BACK at our history... marianito luspo, a distinguished professor in culture, the arts and history, and a brilliant historian... one of a very rare few... a companion in this our journey of TANDOGI TAGBILARAN! a tal tagbilaranon being born and raised in the city and who loves with all his mind and heart... TAGBILARAN... told us a beautiful story of tagbilarans past. marianito begins this narration saying: i still have to find the exact lines from JOHN FOREMAN but is is something like this. the BOHOLANO-AMERICAN WAR started in SEPTEMBER of 1900 and saw the ISLAND OF BOHOL slowly being PUT TO THE TORCH by the americans. meanwhile, the boholano patriots fled to the mountain areas engaging the americans only in AMBUSHCADES that resulted only in MORE CRUEL REPRISALS by americans against the native population. sometimes in OCTOBER of 1901, GENERAL WILLIAM HALE took over the command of the american forces in bohol with order to finally PUT DOWN the BOHOLANO REVOLT. he then issued the ULTIMATUM that if the insurgents will not lay down their arms by CHRISTMAS DAY of the year, he will BURN TAGBILARAN. we have to understand that by this time 20 of the 35 TOWNS in bohol were already PUT TO THE TORCH by the americans. TAGBILARAN was SPARED because this was where the americans were billeted but knowing that most of the INSURGEN LEADERS were from TAGBILARAN. he presumed his THREAT would be taken SERIOUSLY. this was at this time that a GROUP OF WOMEN PARADED IN THE STREETS OF TAGBILARAN in their BLACK ATTIRE and making WAILING NOISES that john foreman described as LIKE A GREEK CHORUS! as a result, general hale became LESS HOSTILE and the boholano patriots decided to finally SURRENDER in the CONVENTO of DIMIAO on the 23rd of DECEMBER 1901. marianito ends this historical account he narrates admitting: i still have to fine tune this narrative so im looking for relevant documents.
