a very reasonable request !! The SF LGBTQ Center has many elders and HIV survivors clients, how on earth would have be non accessible ???? Dear Mila, My name is Jose Santamaria and I would also like to request that the LGBTQ Community Center install an automatic door opener to your building entrance. I also am unable to enter the Center without assitance of others due to my disability(use power wheelchair). I have often wanted to attend and participate in the activities and services that the Center offers the community but dont want to go through the hassle of asking a total stranger to open the door for me. This can also be dangerous being that I am already in a vulnerable position. I would like to suggest that a vertical bar type door opener be installed instead of the round button one. With the vertical bar button, one can either use chair footplate(if unable to use hands) or hand to to operate device. Being that you are a Community Center serving the interests and needs of the LGBTQ, I ask that all efforts be made to fully engage LGBTQ with disabilities and being able to just enter the building independently is a GREAT start.
